Surah Ya-Sin — Verse 17
وَمَا عَلَيْنَا إِلَّا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ
And our duty is only to deliver the message clearly
With these words, the messengers define the limits of their responsibility. Their duty is to communicate God's message to the people and make the truth clear. They are not meant to seek personal validation or to gain private advantage from people's agreement.
The expression “clear delivery” (al-balaghu l-mubin) means conveying the message openly and intelligibly, so that the hearers can understand the invitation and have adequate grounds to consider it. The duty is therefore not simply to pronounce a few words, but to explain the entrusted message correctly and clearly.
Once the truth has been made clear, accepting or rejecting the call becomes the responsibility of the people themselves. The messengers are sent to show the way, not to compel others to follow it. If the people accept the truth, the benefit belongs to them. If they turn away, the messengers, having fulfilled their task properly, are not responsible for the choices of their hearers.
