يَا حَسْرَةً عَلَى الْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
Alas for these servants! No messenger came to them without their making fun of him

Alas for these servants! No messenger came to them without their making fun of him
The story ends with a moving exclamation: “Alas for the servants!” The expression conveys the gravity of what people have lost by refusing an opportunity for guidance. It does not attribute helpless, human-style regret to God.
Their cause for regret is not merely the punishment that followed. It is the opportunity they themselves allowed to pass.
Messengers came to make the truth clear, yet many chose to ridicule the messengers rather than listen to what they had to say.
The word “servants” also reminds us that, despite their defiance, these people remained dependent on their Creator and stood in need of the guidance offered to them.
