After the signs of creation on earth, the Quran turns our gaze towards the succession of day and night. Daylight spreads over the world around us, and when the day ends darkness comes to cover it once again.
This recurring change is itself a sign of the Lord's ordering of creation, even though familiarity may cause us to overlook its wonder.
The Arabic expression “We strip the day away from it” offers a vivid image of the withdrawal of light, as though daylight had entered the darkness and, when removed, night again filled the scene.
Human beings live each day amid light and darkness, but they are neither the creators nor the sovereign controllers of this order.
