After reminding us of the destruction of earlier generations and the gathering of everyone before God, the Quran turns our gaze towards land that sometimes lies dry and bare but comes alive again, with seeds and plants emerging from it.
We see this scene so often that we may overlook how remarkable it is.
The sign is not merely that earth exists. It is the transformation of land that seemed dead into a source of growth and nourishment. From that same soil, God brings forth grain that becomes food for human beings, and the provision of our lives is connected to this growth.
The scene reminds us of the Lord's provision and, following the verses about those who died and will be raised again, offers an image that can help us think about life returning after death.
