Surah Ya-Sin / Verse 54

فَالْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْئًا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

So today no soul will be wronged in the least, and you will be repaid only for what you used to do

After describing resurrection and the gathering of all people, the Quran establishes the principle governing that Day: God's perfect justice. No one is punished without right, and no one's due is denied. God's judgement is not clouded by ignorance, error or injustice.

The words “no soul will be wronged in the least” apply to everyone. No good deed is disregarded unjustly, and no one is made to bear another person's wrongdoing without right. No one deserves punishment for an act they did not commit.

“You will be repaid only for what you used to do” reveals the connection between people's actions and their ultimate fate. Reward and punishment are not detached from human choices. The way people live has real consequences, and divine judgement is not arbitrary.

From this perspective, earthly life is an opportunity to shape our future. An act that appears insignificant or is quickly forgotten—helping someone, respecting another's rights, committing an injustice or withholding aid—does not simply vanish from the truth of our lives. The Resurrection is the time when the consequences of human actions become clear, and no one is treated unjustly.

This emphasis on justice does not deny God's mercy or forgiveness. It affirms that final judgement rests on truth and does not wrong any person. After the repeated warnings about the Resurrection, the passage closes with that assurance.
